Fall Semester Flooding Update

August 24, 2007

The library is continuing restoration and recovery work following the flood earlier this summer.

We have replaced dry wall, carpeting and paint throughout the lower level of the library. We have not yet returned the books to the shelves, or completed the wiring to the computers and study carrels.

The library is not able to say exactly how long restoration will take to complete, but we hope to return to normal service levels through September.

Some services and resources have been disrupted and are unavailable for next few weeks:

  • Circulating books (60,000 volumes) from Level–0 remain in off-site storage.
  • Study rooms not damaged by the flood have been converted to offices for displaced staff and are unavailable to students.
  • The library classroom is not available for instruction, though faculty may contact Nora Robinson or Kat Marlowe for instruction at an alternative location.
  • Approximately 100 drop–in study seats (including 30 computer workstations and video/DVD viewing stations) are not available until restoration work is completed.

Despite these difficulties the library is still able to offer many services to the SAIT community:

  • Our e-book and database collections contain thousands of full text books and periodicals. These are available from on– or off–campus with your Library PIN.
  • Both the instructional and home-use video/DVD collections are available to students and faculty. Three viewing stations for videos and DVDs have been set up on the library's main floor.
  • Our Level-1 collections (paperbacks, print periodicals and reference books) are still available as are computer workstations, photocopiers, printers and drop-in study space.

Our information desk staff are still here to help you. We will also obtain books from other libraries if we are unable meet your needs with available resources. If you need assistance or have questions please contact us:

Library Flooding Update 2

June 15, 2007

The library is continuing restoration and recovery work following the flood of June 5th.

Several services and resources have been disrupted and will be unavailable until further notice:

  • Circulating books (60,000 volumes) from Level–0 have been packed and stored off-site.
  • Study rooms not damaged by the flood have been converted to offices for displaced staff and will be unavailable to students.

  • Our Level-1 collections (paperbacks, print periodicals and reference books) are still available as are computer workstations, photocopiers, printers and drop-in study space.

And, of course, our friendly and knowledgable library staff are still here to help you. If you need assistance or have questions please contact us:

Though libary staff, SAIT Facilities personnel and our contractors are working hard to restore the library, we may not be back to normal operations in time for the start of the Fall semester. We will post an update on our status in mid-August advising users of our progess.

Library Flooding Update

June 8, 2007

As previously posted, the lower level of the library suffered significant damage during the storm on the evening of June 5th. We will be removing the carpet and replacing drywall on the lower level. Our book collection is on the lower level and will have to be placed in storage until repairs are completed. Many books also suffered damage and may have to be replaced

Because of this, there will be no access to the book collection until further notice.

We know this will create challenges for many of our users. We are working to restore normal service as soon as possible and thank you for your patience. Our e-books and databases are still available from on– or off–campus

If you need assistance or have questions please contact us:
